As my departure date to Switzerland looms closer and closer, I made one final stop on my 2011-12 EuroBall recruiting tour in an effort to get information to as many ex-college players as I possibly can about the fast track to a job furthering their careers overseas. After previously meeting with players at California Lutheran University, La Verne University and Occidental College, today's stop was in Westwood, California, the home of the University of California at Los Angeles Bruins.
Before my meeting, Laurie and I took the time to tour the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame.

A four sport letterman at UCLA, Jackie Robinson was easily America's most influential athlete of the 20th Century.

Rose Bowl Glory Days
The 1966 upset 14-12 win over Michigan State also helped propel sophomore QB Gary Beban into the national spotlight.

It was a different time with a different game. Still, stats aren't everything, Beban was such a great leader, winner and clutch player. With these stats today, I doubt that he would get very many Heisman Trophy votes.
UCLA won a lot of games those three years with him at the helm.
But not at Husky Stadium in 1966.

I met with Christian for about an hour going over all that he needs to know to play in Europe. He was very interested and I believe that he will be able to hook up with a EuroBall team in the near future.
